Our students are grouped into two classes by age:
The Coop offers the following Extended Day options at extra cost, provided there is sufficient interest:
During their afternoon stay days, the children enjoy a lunch brought from home and quiet activities with a smaller group of friends from both classes. All early drop off and extended day sessions are run by regular Coop teaching staff.
The school year runs from mid-September through the Friday after Memorial Day. Children may also attend a 2 week extended session in early June (additional fee). School holidays, vacations, and weather-related cancellations follow the Newton Public School schedule. Click here for the 2007-2008 NPS Calendar.
Children start off the day with sand, blocks, manipulatives, dramatic play, and art projects at various activity stations.
The sorting and ordering at cleanup time are pre-math skills. Bathroom time promotes self-care.
Children sing songs, hear stories, and play simple games as a group.
A snack is served by the Parent Helper. Children practice mealtime etiquette with their peers.
A book is chosen from the school's extensive library to tie in with the unit of study.
The day ends with active play outside with friends from both classes.
